What Is Specialty Coffee?

The term "specialty coffee" is a term that covers the quality of the coffee. Specialty coffee is coffee that has been grown, harvested, processed and roasted thoroughly and carefully.

The quality of specialty coffee is based, among other things, on a cupping scale with points from 1-100 created by the Specialty Coffee Association. When a coffee scores over 80 points on the cupping scale, it is defined as specialty coffee.

All our coffees are specialty coffee but in this category they are simply extra delicious. That's why we call them our premium coffees.

Coffee Beans from Around the World

We import our specialty coffee from many places around the world. From Indonesia to Kenya or Ethiopia to Costa Rica – we have coffee for every coffee lover.

Our specialty coffee comes, among other places, from:

The coffee beans are carefully selected in accordance to getting the most out of the flavour with our gentle roasting. This results in fantastically good coffee, which varies in taste, complexity and aroma based on terroir and location, and it gives us a delicious range of unique specialty coffees.

Among other things, we have organic coffee from Peru and directly purchased coffee from Costa Rica. You are therefore guaranteed to find a coffee that suits your preference.

Coffee That Actually Tastes Like Coffee

Coffee does not have to be dark and bitter tasting.

We roast our coffee beans lighter than most. We do this because we want to highlight some of the many exciting flavours that coffee contains. With our light roasting, we bring out a lot of unique flavour nuances that can be found in specialty coffee. Therefore, our coffee can taste of everything from rhubarb, pineapple and wine gum to figs, bergamot and chocolate.

When we receive the coffee beans, we develop a unique roasting profile for each type of coffee bean. We do this because the origin of the beans gives them a very individual taste, which we want to clarify with the roasting. We emphasise the natural sweetness and fruity taste of the coffee beans, which may well be difficult to find in ordinary dark roasted coffee.

We omni-roast the beans so you can use them for filter coffee, espresso or whatever you prefer.

Responsible Coffee – What Does It Mean?

We do not compromise with our coffee, and therefore we do not refer to our coffee as sustainable coffee either. That's because we prefer to express accountability. This means, among other things, that we deal directly with farmers and pay them a decent price that they can actually live on.

In addition, we are also facing the climate crisis. This means that we buy coffee that is grown in ways that do not worsen the climate. This is seen, for example, in coffee which is cultivated or naturally grown in forests (agroforestry) rather than cleared agriculture. When the coffee is grown in the forest, it grows in the shade (shade-grown), which gives the coffee some very specific flavour notes and increases biodiversity in the area.

In addition, we also work to reduce our own footprint on the climate. We check our CO2 emissions every year and find out how we can reduce it. For example, we always choose to have our coffee sent on cargo ships rather than airplanes because the CO2 emissions are much lower that way.

The knowledge we present as our responsibility is always available to you in our Transparency Report. We make a new one every year, so you can always follow our development and progress.
