El Desafio 2023

The Return of a Classic

This month, our Explorer subscribers can look forward to an exclusive sample of the new harvest of El Desafio. It is everything this classic has always been – yet a little different.

It is creamy, sweet and has lots of fruity notes. A new harvest is always exciting and this time is no exception.

The Family Farm

Café Rivense is located in this beautiful location in Costa Rica. The farm was founded back in the 1940s and is today run as a real family business by Ricardo, his father Régulo, his mother Isabelle and his brothers Mario, Luis and Esteban.

They have supplied coffee to our selection for several years – including La Catarata and El Cristobal – and the family's production covers several different carefully selected varieties and processes.

Processing

A Natural Coffee

El Desafio is a natural coffee, which means that the entire coffee berry is dried with the coffee bean inside. This type of processing is good for getting a high degree of natural sweetness and fruitiness from the berry to the coffee.

El Desafio comes with some flavour notes that may often be assumed to be a bit different from traditional coffee, but are absolutely wonderful.
