Coffee that absorbs CO2
-16.1 tons of CO2
This is the result of our CO2e accounting for 2024.
Thanks to our reductions and the large absorptions that take place on the coffee farms, our CO2e balance is in the red. This means that we actually absorb more CO2 than we emit.
Verified climate accounting
In 2023, our method and calculations were verified by FORCE Technology. In 2025, our climate accounting was also validated by SBTi.

Our climate accounts for 2024

The total result for 2024 is:
We have emitted 204.3 tons of CO2e
We have absorbed 220.4 tons of CO2e

A negative CO₂ account
A negative CO₂ account; how does it work?
CleverCoffee absorbs more CO₂e than we emit. Partly because of the large reductions we have achieved across the value chain - but especially thanks to the large absorptions that take place on the coffee farms that we have chosen to collaborate with.
The absorptions on the farms come from reforestation projects, bio recovery projects, shade trees and the coffee plants themselves.

Agroforestry and shade grown coffee
Regenerative agriculture
Coffee is grown in many different ways - some more harmful than others.
Regenerative forestry absorbs more CO₂, strengthens biodiversity, and reduces the need for pesticides and water consumption. And it actually contributes to the good taste of the coffee, as the coffee cherries take longer to ripen in the shade of other trees.

Reductions in the production
Our innovative roasting process saves 70.6% CO₂e
At CleverCoffee, we have developed a structured approach to reducing CO₂e emissions from coffee roasting.
By investing in an energy-efficient Loring coffee roaster and optimizing our roasting processes, we have reduced CO₂ emissions from roasting by 70.6% compared to the industry standard and by 65.8% compared to our previous setup.

Anti-deforestation
EUDR
The EU has adopted several new laws to minimize member states' contributions to climate impacts and social exploitation. The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) aims to ensure that products entering the EU have not contributed to deforestation.
We support the full implementation of the EUDR and help coffee farmers obtain the necessary documentation. We can already guarantee that our coffee is deforestation-free.

We keep nothing secret.
Gain insight with your ESG data
In an industry with a lot of poverty and unnecessary climate impact, transparency is our most important tool.
That's why we publish our purchase prices and climate impact every year - and there are no hidden links in our value chain. All our data is free to use for your own reporting and climate accounts.
