Finally, the Danes can once again get their hands on the filter coffee machine that American Time Magazine has declared the coffee machine baristas use at home: Bonavita BV1900TS.
This black coffee maker from Bonavita imitates the pour-over method that baristas use when making hand-brewed coffee.
This machine differs from a regular coffee machine in several areas:
Accurate and constant water temperature
The right temperature of the water is very important when brewing filter coffee. A too low, too hot or fluctuating water temperature can result in an uneven extraction and a worse flavour experience. Bonavita's BV1900TS is very accurate in hitting the optimum temperature and it manages to keep the water at the right temperature of 92°-96°C throughout the brew.
Possibility of pre-infusion
The BV1900TS can be set to make a so-called pre-infusion. So a wetting of the coffee. This soaking allows the coffee to grow a little before the actual brewing begins – what we call a 'bloom'.
Shower head design
When the hot water is poured over the ground coffee, it is not coming from one small hole in the middle but from many holes distributed like a shower head over the coffee. This gives a more even extraction, reminiscent of coffee that is brewed by hand.
These functions help the BV1900TS deliver a cup of coffee that lives up to Golden Cup Standard, as defined by the Specialty Coffee Association.
